Christopher L. Huggins, choreographer, teacher and member of the famous Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, they trained with Andrea Herbert Major, Danny Sloan and Martha Gray. After studying at SUNY Purchase, the Julliard School and Ailey School, Christopher was a guest artist with numerous companies in the United States, the Oslo Dance Ensemble in Norway and the Régio Emilia Aterballetto in Italy. Christopher also had the honor of being a visiting professor and choreographer in South Africa, Europe, Japan, Korea as well as in the United States in leading schools and universities such as Howard University, Spellman College, University of Arts, Estern and Western Michigan and Wayne State University.
He has choreographed pieces for Dallas Black Dance Theater, Ailey II, Philadanco, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Louisiana Dance Theater, Lulu Washington Dance Theater, Dance Theater of Harlem, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Broadway Dance of Tokyo and Oslo Dance Ensemble. He also had the honor of being the only guest choreographer for the 2008 Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater 50th Anniversary Opening Gala. In 2002 and 2008, Christopher was recognized for his work by receiving the Alvin Ailey Award for best choreography. The Black Alliance Award in Chicago also recognized his work “Enemy Behind The Gates” and “Pyrokinesis” received a silver medal at the 4th annual international dance competition in Seoul. His other distinction was to receive the “Critics Choice Award” for his choreography of the musical “The Wiz” with the Dallas Theater Center.
Christopher Huggins is currently resident choreographer of the Duke Ellington High School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. and choreographer in Cape Town, South Africa where he recently created the ballet “Boléro” for the Cape Dance Company. He is resident teacher of the Dance Convention Tour, ASH - Artists Simply Human.
