Inspired by the energy of Reggae-Dub sound systems, Radio Byzance draws from a mosaic of influences to produce a sound that blends genres and continents. Released in September 2020 on the ODGPROD label, their debut album, "Positive Wave," received airplay on FIP and numerous other radio stations.
The trio's vocals and acoustic instruments are layered over electronic productions, all remixed live. Sung in English or Spanish, the compositions also feature "versions" that showcase improvisation.
Trained by Uzul (Kaly Live Dub) of the Jarring Effect label, Alban Landais crafts his productions with meticulous attention to detail: heavy reverb, deep bass, theremin, and delays place this music firmly in the lineage of the pillars of Anglo-Saxon and French Dub. But the acoustic instruments lend a unique flavor to this digital reggae: violin, darbuka, trumpet, buzuki... Radio Byzance's music has hints of cumbia and Eastern European music, with sounds reminiscent of O.B.F., Björk, and 1960s free jazz. Indeed, numerous travels and musical explorations have shaped these three musicians, who share a common thread: they were all influenced by the electrifying world of dub.
Created for the stage and sound systems, the group also performs on the move with their Bike-Sound, a colorful mobile sound system built on a cargo bike.
Since its creation in 2019, Radio Byzance has been spreading its good vibes to audiences of all kinds (approximately 80 concerts in France and Switzerland). Distributed by the tour manager Come On Tour (Alpha Blondie, Julian Marley, Vanupié) it travels the roads in very varied places, including the No Logo BZH, Terres du Son, and Notes en Vert festivals.
