Christopher HUGGINS

Christopher L. Huggins is a visionary and innovator in the field of dance.

A disciple and historian of Alvin Ailey, he develops a multi-layered choreographic writing through dance. Christopher studied at Purchase University, the Julliard School, and was a Merit Scholar at the Ailey School.

He has been a soloist with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Aterballetto di Reggia Emilia, Italy. His work is rooted in the commemoration of our darkest history. This is most evident in his ballet THE LIST, which chronicles the systemic genocide of a Jewish family and those who were incarcerated in concentration camps. His ballet NEW FRUIT, inspired by the music of Nina Simone, documents the lynching of terror.

Through his dance initiative, he provides opportunities for emerging dancers and choreographers to study with him abroad. He works internationally and has held residencies at over 25 universities and colleges.

Christopher has received numerous awards including two Alvin Ailey Awards from the Black Theater Alliance, a Walt Disney Diversity Award, a Critics Choice Award, and a Silver Medal at the Seoul International Dance Competition in Korea.

He is also a “repetiteur” for Alvin Ailey ballets.

As he continues his legacy of dance, Christopher hopes that his work will heal, entertain, and inspire humanity.
